PRP – Platelet-Rich Plasma

There are minimal side effects and no downtime associated with PRP, which means that it is a treatment that appeals to men and women of all ages living busy lives

What is the PRP Procedure?

Before the PRP treatment, patients will attend a consultation with a professional to discuss their skin needs. There will also be an assessment to ensure that PRP is the best treatment for you. The consultation will also involve carrying out a blood sample test to ensure that the procedure is suitable for you.

The PRP treatment involves blood being collection from the patient’s arm. This will follow a similar routine to completing a blood test. A professional will collect a small amount of blood from the patient and this will be centrifuged. This allows for the platelet rich plasma to be separated and isolated for the treatment. This process does not take long, lasting around 10 minutes and will make sure there are eight growth factors for the patient. The PRP is then injected back into the skin for rejuvenation.

Patients may require more than one treatment session of PRP. The most common number of treatments that is recommend for a beautiful complexion is three, but you will be able to find out more during your personal consultation. Each treatment session of PRP will be enjoyed around four weeks apart.

Does PRP Hurt?

A lot of patients are concerned that PRP is a painful treatment. But the good news is that the PRP procedure is comfortable for patients and it is well tolerated. Before the treatment begins, the skin can be numbed using a topical anaesthetic cream. This is normally applied around 30 minutes before the treatment so that any injections cannot be felt on the skin. Most patients only report a slight tingling or burning during the PRP treatment that is not described as painful.

What Happens after PRP?

There are minimal after effects from PRP, which makes it a convenient procedure to have. It is common to experience some minor swelling after the treatment, but this should subside on its own and an ice pack can help patients feel more comfortable. There may also be some slight bruising to the skin. This will only last a few days.

Should I Take Time Off for PRP?

The great thing about this treatment is that there is no downtime associated with this procedure. This means that most patients choose not to take any time off work. There is certainly no expectation for rest or time off from your daily activities. Most people will return to their normal routine straight away. If you are feeling self-conscious about any bruising that you have experienced from PRP treatment, you can use makeup.

What Results Can I Expect?

PRP treatment works by helping to increase collagen production for more youthful and healthy skin. This can mean that fine lines and wrinkles can be diminished, as well as fade acne scars and improve the texture of the skin. It is important to remember that PRP treatment is not an instant fix; there is some patience required to see results with this procedure. You will start to see improvements in your skin within three weeks of having the treatment and this will get progressively better in the months that follow. This means that you can expect natural and subtle results.
