Hyperhidrosis Treatment FAQs
What causes hyperhidrosis?
The cause of hyperhidrosis is currently not known but it is the result of overactive nerves. The Thoracic Sympathetic Ganglion Chain controls the glands that are responsible for perspiration and if a part of this chain experiences a spike in activity, it can cause excessive sweating. Hyperhidrosis also only affects certain areas of the body, including the hands, armpits, feet and face. In some cases, hyperhidrosis can also be a side effect of certain medication.
What can I expect during a hyperhidrosis treatment?
Once it has been determined you are a suitable candidate for this treatment, a topical numbing agent can be applied to the affected area to alleviate any discomfort during your treatment. A series of small injections will now be applied to the affected area. The proteins in the anti-wrinkle injections work by blocking the signals to the sweat glands, which prevents the glands from producing any sweat. The average treatment lasts about 30 minutes and patients are free to return to their normal routine directly after their appointment.
Who is an ideal candidate for hyperhidrosis treatments?
Before you are cleared for treatment, a clinician at Face and Body Adelaide will first review your medical history. Patients should be in good physical health and ideally be a non-smoker. Anti-wrinkle injections are only recommended in cases where prescription antiperspirants were not successful.
Are treatments for excessive sweating safe?
Anti-wrinkle injections are a thoroughly researched and tested treatment that is FDA-approved, making it a safe way to address excessive sweating.
Are there any side effects associated with treatments for excessive sweating?
As with all cosmetic treatments, side effects are possible after receiving anti-wrinkle injections. However, when your treatments are administered by a qualified and experienced medical professional, the risk of side effects can be reduced. The potential side effects associated with anti-wrinkle injections include:
- Mild bruising at the injection site
- Infection at the injection site
- Tenderness or skin irritation at the injection site
If for any reason you experience any side effects after your appointment, contact Face and Body Adelaide at your earliest convenience.
How much do hyperhidrosis treatments cost?
The cost of your hyperhidrosis treatments will depend on the amount of product that’s required, which varies between patients. While some patients only require a small volume, others will require more. Anti-wrinkle injections are priced per unit.
